This is the Montrealais, loaded up with cement, going through the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie on its way to Duluth, on August 7th. It will come back with a load of grain. Here it's leaving the lock upbound into Lake Superior, the lock having done its thing to raise the ship the 21-foot difference up from Lake Huron. After it went through, two small pleasure boats went through at the same time downbound, floating in from Lake Superior into the full lock. The lock let the water out and they sailed off into Lake Huron, back around to St. Ignace. Extra bonus, after that, the tanker Algosea sailed downbound into the next lock over, but by then it was dark.
In the background you can see the Friendship Bridge to Canada.
(Me 'n' ML went to Yooperland.)
