bright happy yellow crocus in my front garden

This is pretty much your basic essence of happy yellow. Yes, the crocuses are UP! This particular one is in my front garden. I have yellow, purple, pale purple, and white ones, and I've actually had some nice comments about them - this is the third year they've been in, and so what started as really obvious little planned groups of three each have turned into nice clumps. The daffodils have leaves out, and some of them are starting to bud, but some of them also have the ends of the leaves dry and withered (while still green though) due to the weather falling really cold (high of 15) two weeks ago Monday after the leaves were partly up. The crocuses are just plain hardier.

Alas, although it's not too visible here (I'll post another picture) the vinca is largely dead from the middle of the garden, it went all brown and grey and turned into just stem strings. Apparently a fungus got it, as it was trampled into the ground (unavoidably) by the PorchGuys, whereupon it got wet with the leaves in the dirt and compost in the garden, and it was warmish in the 50s for a while during the warm winter. There is a page on vinca stem blight from UIUC extension that seems to fit. Although, parts of it around the edges DO seem to be coming back, which is a good sign. At any rate, I'm planning some overhaul and moving around of things in the garden this year anyways once the house is more or less done - the stuff in there now was Emergency Triage Bulb Planting so that I'd have some flowers, any flowers, ANYTHING, and now that it's clear what random things ended up where, it's time to happily arrange. Plus, the other good thing is this has also killed off the Annoying Ivy.

Happy happy fall day... But it's not autumn! Hmm? Akibare is a state of mind, the feeling when you wake up on a crisp, fall day, the leaves are backlit shining yellow and orange against the blue sky, it's sweater weather, and you can do anything, absolutely anything at all...
