This is Main Street in Urbana in 1925. The view is looking west from downtown. You can just see the Flatiron Building straight ahead, where Springfield and Main diverge. It burned down in 1948, and you can watch it happen on an old episode of "Prairie Fire" available for borrowing at the Urbana Free Library. The white building on the left (south) side of Main here is where OJC is (where I used to teach CLAM) although the top cornice is now gone, replaced by plain brick. Originally it was the Masons building. The dark building with the bay windows burned a day before I was born (!!) and is now the Urbana business alliance (brick building).
