Mallard Course Configuration

It is from this page that you can edit certain course setup parameters. Beginning users probably need only fill in the following information (and let the other fields default):
Basic Course Information

Course Name: This is always visible in the top frame. Since some users have several Mallard courses, you want to be sure that this is visible to users to remind them of which course is which. Examples:
ECON 300: Convexity
ITAL 101: Introductory Italian Default Display Body Arguments: These are the same commands that you would put inside a tag in an HTML document. Examples:
bgcolor=#FFFFFF gives the background color for all Mallard pages.
text=black designates black to be the text color for all Mallard pages. Mallard by default will have black print on white pages, but you could have yellow print on pink pages if you prefer.

Course Director and Instructor

Please provide a bit of information about yourself - and an additional course director or instructor if you wish.

Course Staff for Mail Staff Page

You may provide email links so that students can easily send email from netscape. While typically used for staff listings, you can in fact provide email addresses for anyone.

Mallard Homepage Link Parameters

You can configure two student links on the course homepage: the second from the top in both the left and right columns. Commonly, the right column link is used to access a course newsgroup or conferencing system. (Note that the icon specified here will also appear in the left icon bar and hence be immediately available to students.) The left column link is most commonly used for Course Information, Syllabus, etc. (This link will not appear in the left icon bar.)

If you have a particular icon you wish to use, you will need to ask your Mallard Administrator to upload it to the server. And only your Administrator can tell you what icons exist on the server. (Hence, first time users are advised to use the links that are supplied with Mallard and appear by default.)

Grading Display Parameters

If no other values are specified, the values will default as follows:
Correct answer color:008576
Partially correct answer color:f1b500
Incorrect answer color:red
Correct answer icon:correct_check.gif
Partially correct answer icon:partial.gif
Incorrect answer icon:incorrect.gof
Students have the ability to not display the grading icons if they so choose. They will eventually - but not yet - have the ability to select which colors they wish to use for display of correct and incorrect responses.

Lessons Page Grade Display Parameters

You may wish to have grading feedback appear on the Lessons Page in order to inform students of their progress. Most instructors choose to display gold stars next to quizzes with grades of 100%, and green checkmarks next to quizzes which are not completely correct, but have "passed". Suggested settings are:
pass,green_check.gif for the score and icon representing "passed"
100,gold_star.gof for the score and icon representing "perfect"

Other Grading Parameters

Every quiz must have an associated grade policy. When a new quiz is created, one of the available grade policies is chosen by default. Unless you specifically select a different policy, your default grade policy is used. It is here that you choose which policy to have as your default (typically whatever policy you will be using the majority of the time).

Note: changing this default will not affect existing quizzes.

Copyright Information

A Mallard copyright statement (and link) prints automatically at the bottom of every Mallard page. You are encouraged to provide your own copyright information to appear at the bottom of your course material and quiz Mallard pages. This ensures that any printouts will include appropriate attribution, and can lessen possible confusion between Mallard-generated pages and your own course content. (Since this footer will appear on all your pages, you need to be careful to explicitly provide any additional credits that may become necessary.) Your copyright string may itself be you full copyright statement, or it may be a link to a more detailed copyright information page.
