Getting Started With MallardTM
at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana

You need four things to access your Mallard course

  1. A computer connected to the Internet, either through a modem or a network connection.
  2. A World Wide Web (WWW) Browser: This a program that runs on your computer and will let you look at documents, Web pages, that are stored on other computers. Two popular browsers are Netscape Navigator 3.x and Netscape Communicator 4.x. We suggest you use Netscape Navigator 3.x. This program is available at every CCSO site, and is free if you want to install them on your own computer.
  3. Network ID and Password: Your Network ID and Password allows you to access a variety of services on campus: CCSO Instructional Computing Sites (ICS), U of I Direct, the CCSO modem pool, and your Mallard course. If you do not know your Network ID or Network ID password, assistance is available at the CCSO Account Services Desk in room 1420 Digital Computing Laboratory, 1304 W. Springfield, Urbana IL (M-F 8:30am -5:00pm, 333-6760). Be sure to bring your I-Card with you.
  4. The Uniform Resource Locator (URL), of your Mallard course. Every Mallard URL has three parts:
    (protocol)://(server name)/(course id).
